Battle of Religions: Secular fabric under threat

RELIGIOUS RATTLE: With the involvement of fanatics the issue of conversion in now threatening India"s secular fabric.

New Delhi: Though violence in Kandhamal was triggered by the killing of VHP leader Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati on August 23, many believe that at the root of the violence was long-standing accusations by hardline Hindus that missionaries bribe poor tribals and low-caste Hindus to convert to Christianity.

BJP leader and MP Venkiah Naidu says, “Conversion is the root cause of the tension. The freedom to religion does not provide the freedom to denigrate other religions."

But with the prevelance of Anti-Conversion Law in Orissa, enacted way back in 1967, the state still needs to explain why haven"t been any cases been filed against any missionaries if they were indulging in forced conversions.

Hindu organistaions often accuse Churches in India to be well funded agents of the West, out on a mission to destroy Hinduism. Over the years these voices have only grown stronger with Christian missionaries failing to provide any defence.

But considering that the percentage of Christians in India has remained the same - at 2.3 per cent between 1991 and 2001, the argument of the majority community seems weak.

Unfortunately with the involvement of fanatics, an issue could have been resolved with a debate, has been transformed into a battle - a battle posing a threat to the secular fabric of our nation.

புதுடில்லி: “கட்டாய மத மாற்றம் செய்வதால் தான், வன்முறை ஏற்பட்டதாக கூறப்படுவது உண்மையல்ல. கர்நாடகாவில் கடந்த ஒரு ஆண்டாக ஒரு மத மாற்றம் கூட நிகழவில்லை’ என, தேசிய சிறுபான்மை கமிஷன் தெரிவித்துள்ளது. கர்நாடகாவில் கிறிஸ்தவர்களுக்கு எதிரான தாக்குதல் நாடு முழுவதும் பெரும் விமர்சனத்தை ஏற்படுத்தியுள்ளது. கர்நாடக அரசுக்கு, மத்திய அரசு எச்சரிக்கை விடுத்துள்ளது. கர்நாடகாவுக்கு நேரில் சென்று, தேசிய சிறுபான்மை கமிஷனின் உண்மை கண்டறியும் குழு ஆய்வு செய்தது. முகமது ஷபி குரேசி, மைக்கேல் பின்டோ, ஹர்சரண் சிங் ஆகியோர் வன்முறை பாதித்த பகுதிகளில் ஆய்வு நடத்தினர். இதுபற்றிய விரிவான அறிக்கையை மத்திய அரசிடம் தாக்கல் செய்துள்ளனர். அறிக்கையில் குறிப்பிடப்பட்டுள்ளதாவது:

கிறி� �்தவர்கள் மீது நடத்தப்பட்ட தாக்குதலுக்கு எதிராக மாநில அரசு கடுமையான நடவடிக்கை எடுக்கவில்லை. வன்முறை அதிகரித்ததற்கு இதுவே முக்கிய காரணம். கட்டாய மத மாற்றம் செய்வதால் தான், வன்முறை ஏற்பட்டதாக கூறப்படுவதற்கு எவ்விதமான ஆதாரமும் இல்லை. கடந்த ஒரு ஆண்டில், குறிப்பாக புதிய அரசு பதவியேற்ற நூறு நாட்களில் மாநிலத்தில் ஒரு மத மாற்றம் கூட நிகழவில்லை. எனவே, மத மாற்றத்தால் கலவரம் ஏற்பட்டதாக கூறப்படுவது உண்மை அல்ல. கிறிஸ்தவர்கள் மீதான தாக்குதல் முன் கூட்டியே திட்டமிடப்பட்டது. வன்முறைக்கு பின் அரசு மேற்கொண்ட நடவடிக்கையும் பாரபட்சமாக உள்ளது. இது தொடர்பாக கைது செய்யப்பட்டுள்ள 83 பேரில், 47 பேர் கிறிஸ்தவர்கள். 36 பேர் பஜ்ரங் தளத்தைச் சேர்ந்தவர்கள். கிறிஸ்தவர்கள் மீதான தாக்குதலை தடுக்க மாநில அரசு போதிய நடவடிக்கை எடுக்கவில்லை எனில், இந்த விஷயத்தில் மத்திய அரசு உடனடியாக தலையிட வேண்டும். இவ்வாறு அந்த அறிக்கையில் கூறப்பட்டுள்ளது.

Why should Mylapur Santhome Ctholic Church has been continuosly make Forgery and meaningless claims on Tiruvalluvar spending Millions of Rupees.
